June 2012

On June 9, ASI participated in the annual Asian Festival at Garfield Park, presented by Asian American Alliance.

May 2012

From May 15 to June 5, ASI presented Shining Smiles, an oral health education program for children ages 4 to 7, to children at the North High School KinderCare on the west side of Indianapolis. Developed by the American Dental Association, Shining Smiles helps young students understand the importance of their teeth, provides basic information about keeping teeth clean and healthy that is appropriate to their age and experience and introduces the dentist as a friendly doctor who helps them take care of their teeth.

On May 19, ASI participated in the IPS/IEA Multicultural/International Festival at Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis.

April 2012

On April 7, ASI has partnered with Applebee's Pike Plaza in presenting the ASIANA Breakfast, an opportunity for Asian organizations and community providers to network over breakfast in this casual and enjoyable setting. As the guest speaker, First Lady of Indianapolis Winnie Ballard discussed the importance of financial literacy.

On April 14, ASI participated in a health and community fair presented by the American Indian Center of Indiana and The Church Within in Fountain Square.

March 2012

On March 3, ASI attended the American China Society of Indiana's First Anniversary and the Year of the Dragon Gala at Butler University in Indianapolis.

From March 8 to 29, ASI partnered with La Petite Academy on the west side of Indianapolis in presenting "Shining Smiles," an oral health education program for children ages 4-7. This program, developed by the American Dental Association, helps young students understand the importance of their teeth, provides basic information about keeping teeth clean and healthy that is appropriate to their age and experience and introduces the dentist as a friendly doctor who helps them take care of their teeth.

On March 9, ASI presented information on oral hygiene to the Bhutanese refugee community in Indianapolis. ASI also distributed blankets (donated by Telamon Corporation) and socks and blankets (donated by Mabuhay Philippine Cultural Community and students from the University of Indianapolis).

February 2012

On February 8, ASI partnered with CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions in teaching a "Living a Healthy Life" workshop. This chronic disease self management program was developed by Stanford University.

On February 17, ASI distributed gently used shoes and new blankets to part of the Bhutanese refugee community. Volunteers Maria Manalang and Josephine Soliven from the Philippine Cultural Community helped ASI staff and board at the distribution. Telamon Corporation donated more than 50 blankets, and the Philippine Cultural Community and students from the University of Indianapolis donated more than 40 pairs of shoes and socks.

January 2012

On January 21, ASI attended the Nationalities Council of Indiana's Winter Gala at St. Monica Parish Cafeteria and donated a raffle prize.

December 2011

Through the month of December, ASI conducted a canned goods and clothing drive for the growing Bhutanese refugee community. On December 16, ASI presented to the Bhutanese community information about infant child child car safety and childcare expectations in the United States. ASI also distributed the canned foods and warm clothing for the children. Donations came from the ASI Board Members, Filipino Student Association at IUPUI, Asian Student Union at IUPUI, Sikh community, Philippine American Association of Respiratory Therapists, other ASI volunteers and supporters.

On December 22, ASI partnered with Applebee's (Pike Plaza location) for a Dine to Donate fundraising event and raised $75.

November 2011

From November 18 to 20, ASI participated in the International Festival, hosted by the Nationalities Council of Indiana. ASI partnered with Life Systems Martial Arts in presenting how children and adults can combat obesity through good nutrition and physical activity, like the martial arts.

October 2011

On October 29, ASI partnered with India Association of Indianapolis, Shalom Health Care Center and SEVA Health and Services to present a Community Health and Wellness Fair at the Indian Community Center. ASI provided Diabetes education.

September 2011

On September 10, ASI sponsored two teams for Asian American Alliance's Race for All Races, a run/walk that brings people of all races and backgrounds together to raise funds for IPS high school scholarships. For one of the teams, ASI teamed up with IUPUI's Filipino Student Association.

Also on September 10, ASI was present at this year's Chinese Festival, which celebrated and shared the excitement of the Chinese culture and heritage with residents of Indiana.

On September 15-16, ASI became the fiscal agent for the third-annual "What You Don't Know Can Kill: Improving Health in our Neighborhoods by Engaging Refugees, Immigrants and Minorities Conference" presented by the Office of Minority Health at the Indiana State Department of Health. ASI joined many other corporate sponsors and community partners in presenting health information to both refugees and healthcare providers.

On September 27, ASI presented its second-annual ASIANA Dinner to bring all Asian organizations and community providers together in Indiana. The keynote speaker was Dr. David T. Wong, who is best known for his work discovering Prozac, Stratterra, and Cymbalta and for being honored as an Indiana Living Legend by the Indiana Historical Society.

August 2011

On August 14, ASI was present at this year's India Day Celebration on Monument Circle.

On August 27, ASI participated in the Lafayette Square Area Coalition's "A World of Difference: an International Parade," which celebrated Indy's west side businesses and diversity.

On August 31, ASI presented cultural competency training for the Indiana State Department of Health.

July 2011

ASI recently participated and supported a golf tournament presented by the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists on July 22. ASI collaborated with Nationalities Council and the Philippine Association of American Respiratory Therapists and sponsored a HOLE for $100 besides sending 2 ASI volunteers to play with a team. Liz Jackson (ASI Board member) and her husband also donated a Colts beer bucket loaded with Colts paraphernalia and other items towards a prize.
